In Los Limones, a Reunion is a Blessing, by Blogger PP

  What a blessing it was to see Thelma again in Los Limones, yesterday. Some members of the 2025 team met her when she was 3-4 months old in the medical clinic in 2008 when she was very malnourished, and we were concerned for her physical and spiritual health. We gave her vitamins, formula, and instructions for the mother.  Pastor Jacinto and team member Susan talked to the family in their small hut about Jesus’ gift of eternal life. She was baptized, and Pastor continued helping the family to get food for Baby Thelma. The connection made between the Gualan church and Los Limones grew from there.

 In 2017 another MOST medical team from Sioux Falls served again in Los Limones. What a surprise for us when Pastor Jacinto said, “Here comes Thelma down the path!” Those of us from the 2008 team were so happy to see her again. Now she was a healthy little girl. 

Now eight years later we had the opportunity to see Thelma again. Now she is mother with a 3 month old baby Nancy. It is so special for Bryan, Heather, Deb, and Patty to be with Thelma and Nancy. We know she is better educated and better able to care for this baby than her mother was for her.

We know that God has everything in His hands and in His plans. We did not know in 2008 that our team would have such an impact on the life of a child and the church in Los Limones. We thank God for the blessing of serving His children and seeing the fruit of our work. To God be the glory.

This morning we started off with a delicious Guatemalan breakfast which included plantains, watermelon, pineapple, toast, black beans, sausage, and eggs with ranchero sauce.We then made our way to the church for the service and sang Here I am Lord to the congregation. The church is right next to the Lutheran School that we will be at on Thursday, so we got a little preview of it! At the church we met a North American keyboard player, “Carlos,“ who grew up in the States. He spent most of his time in Nebraska and had a conference at Augustana University in Sioux Falls. Ten years ago, it was suggested to him that he might do some work in Guatemala for awhile and he’s been here ever since. At the clinic today we saw a total of 60 patients, so our total is up to 108 patients that we have helped. We’ve seen quite a few babies and toddlers who are undernourished. Travel Day, May 30

 Yesterday, May 30, we traveled from Sioux Falls (14 of us) and Detroit (1 of us) to Dallas, then took our flight to Guatemala City.  There were plenty of delays, caused by a long wait to get our luggage, a long process to load all our project bags (27) and personal bags (1 per person), and backpacks and ourselves onto our bus, and then TRAFFIC! We stopped at Pollo Campero, our favorite fast-food here, for dinner, and then more traffic delays, finally arriving at our hotel at 10:36 local time, grateful for our many blessings today. We gave thanks to God for many things today:  Smooth transition with all the bags through the Sioux Falls airport Safe flights, including a “hard” landing in Guatemala City NO bags opened during our movement through Customs A wonderful, safe driver, Gregorio, who navigated us through miles of backups with a smile. Anatomy of a MOST Ministries Medical Team

Each MOST Ministries medical team has its own character and layout, but all have the same components.  We take all our supplies and most of our meds in suitcases to the country where we’ve been invited to serve. In the case of Team 2511, 27 suitcases of meds, supplies, and health/hygiene gift bags came with the team of 14 from Sioux Falls. Light-weight quilts, yarn dolls and wood cars also were brought as gifts for the children. Who’s responsible for organizing them and keeping track? That would be our Team Medic, Deb and Pharmacist, Ann. Wow, how many suitcases? Ann put the team to work prepping bags of meds Deb, greeting long-time friend Nury Ann, with a grateful patient Evangelism materials are brought for use by the local church in explaining to our patients the Plan of Salvation through Bible verses. We have bracelets with beads that remind us of this Plan, soft crocheted finger-puppets to keep tiny children distracted, and other methods of explaining the Gospel to all. Our ve...
